THE WORKSHOP

I’M SORRY MONOLOGUES

at La MaMa Theatre Club in New York

All I can say is- WOW! The first of the I’m Sorry Monologues went up in front of a packed house in the historic LaMama theatre in NYC. I wish I could tell you every detail of the road prior with these extraordinary women because it was deeply special. What I can say is - THIS is what REAL community, art meets activism, hard work, and allowing yourself to go into those scary spaces is all about. We all came out the other side braver, more whole, proud, and with friends FOR LIFE. Not only that, but a new found love for writing!!! NONE of the women prior to this workshop were writers. Now, many have started writing daily on their short film ideas, memoirs or even just journaling as a way to stay connected with themselves!!

When Alicia and I first put together this workshop about using our everyday IM SORRYs as a catalyst to unburden ourselves, we knew it would be powerful. However, the deep impact it has had on the women that’s taken this class, and us, has been life-changing. We’ve come to realize it’s more than what we even thought in a workshop - it’s “church”. It’s become a sort of witnessing for one another on the road to healing so much of what keeps us stuck. Allowing yourself to release what’s keeping you hidden under shame, fear, guilt, and so much more. It’s truly become a space to be heard and SEEN! You cannot imagine how that simple act can transform your insecurities into your superpower.

And this is just the beginning.

For now, it’s workshop time. Time to get back to work and start flushing out those "I’m Sorrys." Whether you want to take the workshop in hopes of being one of the chosen monologues to be on stage with us in the next round, just be part of the community, or if you want to take a deep dive into yourself or even just start writing- whatever the reason I can almost guarantee you’ll leave feeling freer, more in touch with yourself and have a new community of like-minded women to call friends. It’s our belief that when we share our stories we realize we are not so different. Furthermore that shame, blame, and self abandonment is actually put upon us all systemically and on purpose in keeping us small. It’s only when we realize this that we can move forward together and make lasting changes for us all.
